Training Day 1 - BOB

Well, everyone says the first day is the hardest...I am not sure I believe that. We did our first round of training on Saturday and other than hot, it was miserable. I am not really a runner. I have never really enjoyed it nor have I ever really been interested in it. However, I do admire those who are able to run. Let me start at the beginning...

As with everything we do, Wes and I tend to want to invest all the money needed so we will be the best equipped runners out there. Well, this time I learned my lesson. I did not go and buy the fancy shoes..yet. Should Wes and I stick with this, we will invest in great shoes. The one thing we did buy was a stroller for Trenton. I have never seen such a stroller - shocks, all kinds of covers, pockets, etc....it is a B-O-B. We bought it based on a neighbors recommendation.

For our first run I pushed Trenton and Wes had Baxter. We thought we were supposed to run for 30 seconds and walk for 90. Later we learned that we are to run for 60 seconds and walk for 90. No matter how many seconds the one thing I learned was I AM OUT OF SHAPE! The only thing that made this run remotely worth it for me was hearing how excited Trenton was.

Naturally, every time we ran it would be up a hill...just worked out that way. Trenton would giggle with delight. We would get to downhill and I swear he sounded like he was saying "Weeeee". It was so much fun for Trenton! We did our time and made our way back home. I walk in the door and the dog is ready to pass out, I am just trying to stay cool, Wes is exhausted, and I hand Trenton his sippy cup. You would have thought this boy just ran a half marathon himself. He was beyond thirsty. He just downed his juice and relaxed on the couch.

So, day 1 was rough. Tonight is day 2. I am hopeful it will be better, but I am still sore from day 1. We are still deciding what 1/2 Marathon, but I have had many suggestions. We will just have to figure it out. As long as I can keep my feet moving I will be okay.

  1. Sara - Ryan & I ran our first 1/2 marathon after we had McKenzie. I promise it does get easier and you might even crave the feeling you get after you run. I feel so good after a long run and it truly makes me a happier person. :-) You will have to let me know how the training goes. I didn't have a BOB with McKenzie but did just order/pick up my double BOB and I love it. It is really big though but it is so much easier to push and run behind (or walk behind b/c I'm not running yet) then my single jogger which was not a BOB. Good luck with training and let me know how things go.

    Love,
    Meridith
