Dear Mr. Telemarketer,

Honestly, I was in a somewhat nice mood yesterday, so when you (annoyingly) called my cell phone for the 5th time, I answered; however, you ruined my mood for yourself and others.

Here is how our conversation went...
Sara: "hello." (water running in the background)
Telemarketer: "Sara?"

**My thoughts...are we that close that you can call me Sara? I didn't think we were...STRIKE 1! **

Telemarketer: "Sara, I was calling because Hilton has some great deals on trips to Orlando, FL and Las Vegas, NV. When was the last time you went to either?"
Sara: (sarcasm in the voice) "Well, Orlando, 1988 and did particularly enjoy it. Vegas, I was 12, stood against the wall while my parents played slot machines (rarely) and realized (from the ads that kept getting shoved in my father's hands) what a stripper was for the first time. "
Telemarketer: "Oh, so you haven't been in a while?"

***Is that what I said, I don't remember that. I think I was trying to get you to go away...I guess your script doesn't have a response for sarcasm...STRIKE 2 ***

Sara: (Trenton SCREAMING in the background) "Can you call me back, my child is hungry and I have to go feed him"
Telemarketer: "Oh, I wish I could but this is the last day of the promotion."

*** I'm sorry, really, that is what you are going to tell my screaming child. Let's see, Trenton, Mommy is sorry, but this man is making his living by annoying me and I am trying to be polite and listen, so you just suck on your hand a little longer..maybe it will produce some kind of food...STRIKE 3 ***

Sara: "Well, I hate to be rude, but I am going to be (if you are honest, that makes it okay - it is like bless your heart)...my child takes precedence over your ridiculous promotion and actually, you are looking for my parents, not me. I don't have a Hilton card, so you are going to really be disappointed that I wasted your time. Also, your promotion can go to HECK (not the real word I said) and you should really be mindful of how you treat your customers...on that note, I am going to let you go and your D*** promotion. "
As I hang up, Telemarketer: "I am sorry to hear that you are missing out on this...."

***Devastated I hung up because I would have LOVED to have the last word...Trenton wins again! ***

Thanks for calling Hilton Rewards, I will pass the information on to my parents. They will be SO excited you called.

Love,
Sara

Back to School...

Bless my husband's heart because last night I went back to school. Most of you know that I am in school for Counseling Education and I am currently in my second year. Since Trenton was born I have been in class on Saturday every other week. Now I have started classes on Tuesday and Wednesday night. So, this week Wes has Trenton Tuesday, Wednesday night by himself and then all day Saturday. Most of you know this is not a HUGE feat since Trenton does go to sleep by 7:30 every night, but it isn't as simple as it looks. Wes works LONG days and then comes home to bathe Trenton, wash bottles, pick up the house and if there is ANYTHING in the pantry, cook dinner.

I say all this because I am still learning, like any new Mom, how to balance it all. Last night I was talking to my Mom and I realized that I do not have ANY idea how to balance it. So, I work every day from 8:30-4:30 (estimated) and then I get Trenton (on nights I do not have class). Wes comes home anywhere from 5-6 and then we share Trenton duties. Eventually, we eat and then when Trenton goes to bed I do homework. I am not sure when Wes and I talk. Last night we talked for a while as I scarfed down my first meal of the day, but by the time we get home there is NO energy left to talk. Now, I know this seems like a problem area and it is, but I am still trying to figure out what to drop. Do I drop school? Well, I have already decided to slow down my classes and delay graduating by a year (at least!) Do I stop doing homework? Well, that would be lovely but not an option since I would like to graduate with passing grades. So, I am stuck. The only great thing is that my classes are only 8 weeks. I say ONLY, but in the 8 weeks there is enough work to make you ready to scream.

The classes I am currently in are not terrible and the professor is wonderful about organization, but since it is a Master's Program it is starting to get repetitive. I understand there is a lot to learn, but I am truly not sure how I am going to get it all done. I mean, you do it because you have to, but is there any other way???

Last night in class (4 hours long) we talked about stress and recognizing burnout. Well, I know I am stressed, I feel it in my shoulders, but how do you manage it? I am not sure. Not to mention once I get used to Trenton's current routine he will decide to enter another stage of development and we will be on to a new one. It is amazing to watch him grow and develop a personality and I am so excited to get to be a Mom.

So, my blog today is reflective of my mood and exhaustion. I do have to thank my husband for doing all he does. I am still learning to let go and realize that the shirts don't have to be folded a certain way; however, please do separate my sweaters from all the other laundry...fuzzies are annoying! :) Wes and I are spending his birthday (march 16th) together, just the 2 of us. I took off work and we will celebrate since that evening I have class and he will be alone! :(

Hopefully tomorrow I will have a more exciting blog. I do apologize for the lack of humor and sarcasm. If anybody knows how to manage it all, comments are welcome!

Google It!

Let's be completely honest here....I truly have NO idea what my Mom did without the internet when we were growing up! Now, I am sure she was just less aware of my inadequacies as an infant and adolescent, but when I am even the slightest bit unsure about parenting, I google it.

Now, I am in school for counseling and I know that googling is not the answer. However, it is like WebMD was to me when I was pregnant, an answer without having to admit I had NO idea.

Here is the story...

Trenton is precious! Just adorable; however, he isn't rolling over. Now, please don't start telling me how I should not compare my child's development to that of other babies, I know, but really, everyone does it. Trenton is 4 months old and I know babies roll over on their own time, but seriously, my prodigy is either above rolling over or just too lazy.

My father, always the sarcastic one, did remind me, not in the context of the rolling over conversation, but another conversation that boys do things a little bit slower than girls. Well, that takes a lot of babies out of my comparision pool.

I googled rolling over and babies do this anywhere for 4-6 months, but really, it is whenever they feel like it.

Thinking about my child, I tried to think of all the things he will miss out on by not rolling over...
1. **Provided by my father *** on that day when the firetruck comes to visit school, Trenton will be only a 2/3 graduate...he will stop, drop, no rolling for him. Hopefully the child next too him will be the right size to assist him in the situation OR small enough that it won't hurt too badly when he gets rolled over. Better yet, they could practice on an incline so gravity will help my child.

2. He could never go into action movies. Normally, in gun fights, high intensity action scenes, rolling is key, not my Trenton. He is too busy.

Really, those are the only 2 things that EVER deal with rolling (that I can think of) Unless he is an athlete, sometimes they fall and roll around and jump up. But still, Trenton could do something totally different.

Right now, my child is a turtle...perpetually stuck on his back. he has even learned how to do a semi-back bend in order to still see the television when he is lying in a position way from it.

Before all the mothers out there start judging, I do tummy time. My child lies there, sucking on whatever piece of furniture or blanket he happens to be lying on and eventually cries! I do the Boppy, the few minutes at a time for multiple times a day, we use his legs and roll him over. I think Baxter may catch on before Trenton. If Pavolov started with dogs, why can't I? My degree has to be good for something, right?

So, for the mothers who made it through parenting without google, or the mothers who can relate in a completely non-judgmental way, your comments or helpful hints are welcome. Any other Mom's whose children are not turtles, don't gloat, Trenton will just walk away from Kindergarten with a participation award on the Fire Safety day, while your child has the complimentary fire helment.

Sara's Accident

This week, taking the cats out, clearly was not the right move. Yesterday I got into a little fender bender. I call it little because it was!!!!!

Here is how it happened...

I was leaving work (late, of course, again!) and driving towards the interstate. I was turning right at the light at Robert C Daniel. There was NO traffic coming, so the car in front me started going...I looked to the right and started going too...OOPS, the driver in front of me decided to slam on brakes and stop! REALLY! So, I am talking to my mom and get REALLY mad! I just ran into the back of someone! I hang up. She says she is on the way! I convince her to move the cars into the Starbucks parking lot. She agrees.

I ask her if she is okay and she says she is fine. We get out of the car and I survey the damage...I really can't find any. My car is absolutely okay...I TAPPED her.

Here is how it gets interesting...
we pull into the parking lot. I call Wes, who I later learn was FURIOUS when he hung up the phone. I was not hurt, everybody was fine, but he was thinking it was a total wreck!

We get out fo the cars and I say, "Have you called anybody?" No. "Should we?" **Looking at the damage, there is NONE! she has a scratch like this (-) on her car. I have dirt from her dirty bumper. Her response, "You never know how bad the damage is underneath the car." REALLY!

We start talking...Of course I learn all about her life and everything. I also learn she has been in 6 accidents, hit from behind...hmmm...I see a pattern. She also tells me that it took 3 days after the last incident to feel the whiplash. REALLY!?! This is the girl I hit. GREAT!

Well, I call my mom and tell her we are fine, don't come. Of course, she has sent Dad. Dad is roaming around looking for us.

Meantime, the cop arrives...he looks PISSED that we interrupted his day for this incident. Me, being the perpetual smart butt says "probably not the worst you have seen". He grins, kind of. "No, this isn't that bad."

So, we give the information. He starts writing. We write up our versions of what happened...here is mine. "She started to go right, traffic was clear, I was looking right and started to go..meantime, she had slammed on breaks, I tapped her." Yes, TAP was the verb...there was no hit. IT was a TAP!

While I sit there, dad shows up. Neat...next Mom...hi, lady I hit..this is my family. The cop is probably thinking, what in the world! Oh, here comes my husband to get the car seat....

Family Reunion. Cop leaves, no citations. Lady leaves...nothing big. My dad and mom are both like, are you kidding me!

Wes comes and doesn't speak, grabs the carseat and is GRINNING while he walks away. He too knows the ridiculousness of this incident.

Later that night I talk to Wes and he is more angry that the lady made it such a big deal. I cannot wait to see what all she claims. I am sure it will be more dramatic.

**** SIDE NOTE ****
Trenton SNEEZED BIG this morning and for 3 minutes, he did not sound like a cat when he breathed!!!!!

Also, on the way to school he spit up ALL over himself and the carseat. We changed and moved on with our day, but I am hoping today will be a better day than yesterday!

The Night the Lights Went Out on Hammond

So, last night for a little over 2 hours, our power went off. Here is the story of the night the lights went out on Hammond Dr.

Let me preface this by saying that when Ansley and I were growing up Mom always said you have to date someone at least long enough to go through EVERY holiday before you can get married to them. (Of course, there were other recommendations, but this one is relative) However, I would like to amend this by saying you should have to go through a power outage with the person before you get married.

Some people may find power outages fun...wasn't it New York that had a BOOM in births after the power outage...no worries there. :)

Here is how it started....
Power goes out a little before 8:00pm. Trenton is sound asleep in his bed. I go in his room while my husband searches for the flashlight, which is OF COURSE not where it is supposed to be, so he grabs my cellular to go and find it. After much looking and the dog going CRAZY, he finds the flashlight.

We decide to stay upstairs so we can be near Trenton. I call my Mom and tell her we may be coming over to spend the night...here is where it starts to get interesting...OF COURSE Mom says, you can come and so can your neighbors (not the neighbors with cats). Great...Then Mom says one of those Mom things that make you go...REALLY? "Does the baby have a blanket?" Oh, that is what I was missing. All these cold winter nights, the blanket! Of course, how is it I am able to take care of Trenton during the week, but in a time of 'crisis' the normal things elude me??

So, I am texting with my non-cat neighbor and she has called the power company and they estimate 72 ppl without power and 3 hours to fix it..GREAT! We have a fireplace, but it is on the bottom level, so we don't start a fire quite yet. Neighbor (who I don't call by name because I haven't asked) and I keep texting and meanwhile I notice my precious husband (God bless him) using the ONE flashlight we have to stare at spots on the ceiling and torture the dog. All in all, probably not the best use of the flashlight, well, that annoys him that I tell him to stop. Fine, be annoyed.

Now, for those of you who know Wes, you know he CANNOT sit still, so the entire time we are upstairs he is fidgeting and moving and annoying me, but I am quiet until he starts scratching the headboard with his nail...this move totally upsets our Baxter who is on high alert because he knows that something is up. So, Baxter starts crying...I tell wes to stop and he grunts and pouts. REALLY?? REALLY?

I am texting neighbor and she and I are just chatting and Wes keeps going "what did she say?" "Ask her this..."things I am typing as he says it. I get the number to the power company and learn power should be restored by 10:30. We will wait it out. Meanwhile, Trenton has another blanket and a hat on.

The power company, while outside, causes the transformer to blow...neat! Not long after the LOUD BOOM that scared me and Baxter, NOT Trenton, POWER IS RESTORED!

Finally! Wes goes to finish cleaning up the kitchen and comes to bed. WE survived it all! However, I add this night to things I wish I knew about my husband before I said I DO! :)

TRENTON'S MEASUREMENTS

Length: 2 feet, 4 inches
Weight: 13 lbs even!

BAXTER SAGA
Dear Animal Control,
I would LOVE to file a formal complaint; however, I am not at my residence during your hours of operation, just like it is a job for you, my job too is from 9-5. ESPECIALLY since this cat was in my yard AGAIN this morning!!!!!!!

Dear Cat Neighbors,
I thought about being a nice neighbor and coming over and asking you to keep your cats out of my yard, but then I realized you don't care. I do hate that your poor cats will be going to animal prison, but really, do you have to allow them to roam in my yard, garage, and on my fence???

Dear Cat,
Next time you are in my yard you better hope Trenton is in my arms...he was your saving grace this morning, but you won't always be so lucky

Love,
Sara

Happy Birthday Trenton

So, my BIG boy is getting so OLD! Today he turns 4 months!!!!

We started rice cereal and tonight I will take photos of him, but he truly does NOT want anything to do with it. It is an adjustment I am sure, so we will keep trying, but he is not a big fan of the cereal on a spoon or in his bottle. The battle will continue...Trenton 1, Rice Cereal 0!

Today I have been semi-paparazzi with my son. See, Aunt Ansley lives in Nashville and she doesn't get to see him a lot, so I have pictures from this morning as well as Sunday morning when my baby was in his GAP sweater...so precious! Tonight I will have to weigh and measure him and report back tomorrow!

Trenton on Sunday, February 28th, looking like a stud in his Church outfit.

Not really sure, but we were having a big photo shoot. In the picture on the right he is trying to tell me a story.

Full body shot, he is getting to look like a real person!

Trenton this morning (HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!) on the way to school!!! See, whenever I use the actual camera to take pictures, he makes this face like he has NO clue what is going on!

Now, the pictures from the daycare photo shoot!

There would have been more photos, but he was getting REALLY tired of the camera!

More pictures (hopefully) from tonight when he gets to reunite with his SIR just back from Honduras!

MY yesterday - The SAGA of Baxter

So, as many of you know, Baxter is a BIG dog; however, he is not a brave dog. Case in point, we went on a walk and Baxter was PETRIFIED of the yorkie that was viciously chasing us!

Back story of Baxter....

When we moved on Hammond Drive he was an outside dog. LOVED the back yard and everything; however, not long after we moved in we learned that our neighbors (to the right of our house, not the Ellis's) had a TON of cats...now, keep in mind, I do not like cats, so a TON = 6. They were kittens at the time of our move, but still, not cute. Now, there are at least 2 CATS if not more that roam the streets. One day, one of the cats decided to sit on our fence prompting our dog to jump the fence and get him. So, NATURALLY, the dog chased the cat, the cat ran home, the cats owner called animal control on Baxter. FORTUNATELY, wes was getting home for lunch right as animal control was going to "arrest" Baxter. Warning 1 for Baxter. So, Baxter became an inside dog. Not terrible since we have windows in the front of our home, but still, not the best for him.

Inside dog Baxter, now sits and watches out the windows as these cats come in and out of our garage, our yard and just sit and taunt him. I am OVER IT! Yesterday, Wes had to close because of being short staffed, so I was with Trenton by myself. Not a problem, but Trenton gets fussy after a while and then falls asleep for the night. Well, as all of this is going on, Baxter starts his BIG boy bark out the window. Slams his weight into the window and I think he is going to break through it....well, actually he doesn't break through it, but he doesn't stop barking. So I decide I have had ENOUGH! I put my baby in his pack and play and I decide to go get the cat.

The cat thinks it is a big shot, just sitting in front of my house taunting my big Baxter, then I start coming. Well, I am ready to just grab the cat and take him to animal control myself. He runs away and I am ANGRY. However, coming back down my driveway I slip on the STUPID sweet gum tree droppings. THANKFULLY Trenton was inside!!!!! I catch myself with my right hand as my left leg goes completely behind me. I don't do splits, but yesterday, I did. I am in so much pain. I fell, I hate the cat, my baby is crying, my husband isn't home. I go inside and get Trenton (who by this point has real tears going down his face) and call Wes.

He races home. I am glad he doesn't work far. While I had Trenton, I didn't want to start climbing stairs while holding him until I knew I would be okay, so I just sat there. Trenton was no longer crying, but I was. I was probably more embarrassed than anything, but still.

Fastforward...9:00AM....today!

I call animal control. The collar -less cats will have a formal report written up as soon as I get home and am able to do it. 1st step in the cats getting arrested.

How can you call animal control on this face???

*** side note, Baxter actually has 2 strikes with animal control, but ENOUGH is ENOUGH!!! ***
