So, those of you who follow Ansley's blog you know that Trenton is back in the hospital with RSV. Or as my Mom keeps calling it, the RSVP. Close enough! :) It was not an encouraging visit to the doctor for immunizations on Tuesday. I was at work waiting for Wes to call me with the news of how my precious baby was and instead I get.."meet me at home, we are going to the hospital, they think he has pnemonia". UM! I burst into tears at work and that brings all of the amazing women with which I work to my area to help. Once I realized that I needed to lock all my money in the vault (thank you for that reminder, Heather) I was off to the house.
We were a direct admit to the ER, which was nice and saved a lot of time. Dr. Freeman, amazing man, came in and told us he was going to test for RSV, do a chest x-ray, and put Trenton on oxygen. Trenton's cough originally reminded Dr. Freeman of whopping cough, so I was not sure what result we were going to get. Trenton's O2 levels were in the 70's, so Trenton is put on O2 and watched. I have to say, the deep suctioning they do is amazing, I think everyone would benefit. The RSV test came back positive...that was actually an exciting moment because pneumonia is just scarier to me.
Tuesday night I was in the hospital with Trenton and he would not really eat, cry, or sleep that well. I know it is their job, but do we really need vitals so frequently and could they not all coordinate their visit. Another annoying thing is the digoxin that Trenton is on, the hospital has the hardest time getting that drug approved, but that is okay, I was just glad my baby was going to get better.
Wednesday morning they came in to see him and we knew we were not going to leave that day. They took Trenton off oxygen and he did okay until around 2:00 when he would not eat. I am a worried mom by then because dehydration will not help things in this situation. So, I freak out a little bit, they put Trenton on O2 at 2:00 that afternoon. He is on it and his O2 levels stabilize and he eats! Oh, Trenton also has thrush at this point, so we are just thrilled. Dr. Allen comes that evening to check on Trenton, so nice of him!
Thursday morning - potential discharge day - that morning a nurse comes in with his nystatin for the thrush and shoots it directly down his throat...that induces vomit, thanks nurse! He vomits mucus, which is great, but not fun to clean up. Thursday he is doing well off O2. Dr. Pipkin comes to visit us (so thoughtful) and we are thinking discharge. Well, his O2 had been doing great, but when Dr. Freeman comes in to tell us we may be able to go home, Trenton's levels will not get out of the mid to low 80's, so another night.
Friday morning - Wes is there with him. They are going to monitor his O2 levels today and see if maybe we can't go home, but if we are not comfortable or if they are not, we will stay another night.
Bless our dog's heart...he is so confused and going a touch stir crazy.
Please keep our little man in your prayers. Not a fun blog, but our lives never the less.
