Baxter & Trenton...BFF!

I do not know of one person that did not have anxiety about me bringing Trenton home to Baxter, well, let me tell you that our worries were for naught. Baxter and Trenton have become the BEST of friends. It is odd really. Here is how our afternoons are now spent.

Baxter greets Trenton (by licking his feet, hands, arms, anything he can get to before we pop his nose). Trenton sits in his kicking chair and just plays while Baxter hovers over him. Now, if Trenton does not pay Baxter attention, Baxter barks. Well, the other day, Baxter decided he would just bring Trenton the toy he wanted to play with. So, as I am sitting there talking with Trenton, Baxter brings the rawhide. He drops the rawhide in Trenton's lap and just looks at me with those "why isn't he doing what I want eyes". I tried to explain to Baxter that Trenton did not understand the game of fetch. Baxter wasn't having that, so I threw the rawhide and Baxter went to get it; however, he brought it back to Trenton to throw again. SO, I am not sure if Baxter has figured out that I will pay him more attention if he bothers Trenton OR if Baxter just wants Trenton to be a part of play time too.

Another Trenton and Baxter story...ever since Trenton was born he has followed B with his eyes....when we eat, he follows B, when we play, when we are taking a bath. Well, now Trenton is reaching and grabbing and during floor time he reached for Baxter's big dog mouth and pulled. I was SHOCKED! I didn't know what to do, but I quickly learned that Baxter would take care of it. He looked at me (once he was freed from Trenton's death grip) and just licked Trenton's hands as if to tell him no and walked away. Maybe I should take parenting advice from the dog.

Interestingly enough, I had no idea Ansley had blogged about Beaty today. I guess that is one of those sister things. B and Trenton are going to grow up as buddies and I know they will have many fun times..especially once Trenton starts eating solids and throws them on the floor!

Trenton also discovered his hands recently. He finally put it all together that he has them and they are useful. It was so precious to watch him discover one side, then the other. He also is in love with his feet. Most mornings when I go to get him, his foot is JAMMED down is throat. I walk in there and he just laughs. I love that precious little man.

I promised you all pictures and they shall come, but it will be a little bit. Life is hectic, but ya'll know that.

Change

So, I know I promised pictures, but I am sorry life is getting a touch hectic and I cannot ignore time with my family to prioritize my blog, so I have decided to be somewhat reflective in today's blog. I haven't blogged in a while and part of this is due to change. Life is full of change and most of the time I am pretty good with change; however, recently some changes have been happening with which I have not been very at peace.

I see change daily in the face of Trenton. I see it weekly in myself (sometimes daily too), so change is a great thing. I love watching Trenton grow up and seeing the changes - his face light up at the new toy that we just saw 2 seconds ago, but he doesn't know that, how excited he got yesterday when he was given his first sippy cup. Last night Wes and I were able to eat dinner together, at the table, while Trenton explored his sippy cup in his high chair - our first Family dinner. Precious moments like those make change amazing.

There is another side of change, a not so great side of change. I find it harder than the other, but it is still part of life. I have to be ameanable to new things. For instance, at work, I am now in the drive thru. I am not sure I completely agree with the rationale behind putting me here, but it isn't up to me, so I deal. At first it was permanent, now it is temporary. Trust me, the girl with which I switched will be just as glad to come back home as I will be. Although, right now, the peace and quiet (although temporary) is nice. So, changes are happening at work.

Also, for the first time since maternity leave, I am not in school. I miss school in the sense that I knew it would lead to a great opportunity for myself and my family, but I don't miss the hours spent listening to the same information I have heard in all the other classes I took. I don't miss the amazing nights I get to spend with Trenton and Wes. I also enjoy the fact that on Monday night I can clean my house and not have to worry about when it will get done. Also, I don't have to miss Glee! That is the one show I watch and hate missing. So, while this change means it will take me longer to graduate it has also made me really enjoy work more. I am taking on more responsibility and who knows....I just may make it off the teller line and on to bigger and better things. God is funny that way. He knows what He has planned, but we typically don't find out until we have mapped out our lives.

Another thing I am learning in regards to change is the change that happens within families once a baby is born. Wes and I have been through a lot and we didn't have the typical first few months with Trenton. We went from excited to have him straight to our child having surgery. A lot of couples fall apart during those times, but Wes and I banded together and became even closer. Now we are learning what it is like when I am not in school and can help more. We just talked last night (Wes took his freedom to heart) because he plays ball and golf and races, so many weeknights and weekends are devoted to that. I love being at home with Trenton, but sometimes I need a little grown -up time too.

Now, Trenton is getting to know how to manipulate Wes and me. For instance, he clearly prefers his father to feed him since this morning he just played with the bottle until his Daddy took him and then he gulped it all down. However, when he is fussy...he wants me. So, we work well together in that aspect, but it is change. I used to be the one who could get him to eat, but not any more and I am glad Trenton and Wes have that time together.

I guess my point is this...change is hard and it isn't always what we wanted to do...sometimes it is for the worse and sometimes the better, but ultimately, it is going to happen. It is all in how we deal with change that determines our relationship with others. Wes and I are still learning how to adapt with a baby and we will never know it all, but we are sure of one thing...our love for each other and Trenton is unconditional. Then again, isn't that what marriage vows are all about....good times and bad, sickness and health, richer or poorer...

Catching Up

I haven't really been able to blog much recently and part of me has missed it, but really, I realize that as school ends, I am getting busier and busier. All the things I let "wait til I was done" are catching up with me. So, I am sorry for the lack of blogging and hope to get better. Recently we did have the baptism and Ansley has posted pictures. I hope to just have a blog of pictures soon too! Last night was exciting because we went to Trenton's first baseball game!

Trenton was fussy all day at school and Wes and I decided to go get him a little early. They could not get him to calm down, but thankfully, he did once Wes got him. He slept for some of the day, but like usual, he was awake the rest of the afternoon. So, I was nervous that Wes and I would not get to take him to the game that night. However, it really was nice to get him out of the house. My company had their staff meeting there and every one could bring their families. I paid my $1 for Trenton..he got a hat, a program, and a wrist band! Trenton was asleep when we got there, but I knew it wouldn't take long for him to wake up. When he did, bless his heart, he was surrounded by 20 women that I work with. His little face was scared, but then, right on cue, he just smiled! All the women ate it up, so he just kept doing it all night.

We get to the Pavilion and Trenton is such a sweet boy. He let every one play with him and love on him and he didn't get too fussy. I mean, this boy normally goes to bed at 6:00 and he was up until around 10...yep, 10!!! Wes and Doug had a great time watching the game and hanging out that Wes wasn't ready to leave until I finally said, your son HAS to go to bed! I cannot tell you who won the game or even about the game, but I know Wes enjoyed it....I think Trenton did since he really never got fussy, but who knows. So, I have to put up pictures from the Baptism and the ball game! Lots going on...before I know it, Three will be here and then Trenton will be 1!

Nameless No More!

well, maybe...

So, many of you know my Mom has truly been struggling with what Trenton and Three should call her. Well, we have been through a ton of names. Ansley was in town this weekend (for Trenton's baptism - among other things) and we finally started to look for names for Nameless. Naturally, like I do with Motherhood, we googled it!

There are some STUPID grandma names out there and those that are pretty hilarious. One that almost became reality was NeNe (we think it Hawaiian for goose -Trenton's nickname) but then Trenton would have a NeNe and a MeMe...confusing! Another g'ma name was Poopie...really?!? Who would want to run through the store screaming poopie?

Well, my Dad goes by Sir. So, we started to think of things with Sir. Mom, Ansley, Wes, Sir and I all agreed on Lady. Now Dad wants to be Tramp, but that is because he is silly. So, for this week she is Lady. Trenton even smiled when we offered up the name and Three didn't move around a lot, so she must be in agreement.

ALSO! The Baptism went great! Trenton didn't do anything silly or inappropriate during the event and the party was nice. I am thankful for all the help I received in that and definitely realize just how big planning his 1st birthday party!

Also, after talking to our Dr. friend, Trenton is going through with the procedure in June, so I have that to plan for as well.

Sorry I don't have the pictures yet, check on Ansley's blog...she is normally faster than I am. :)

I'm Back!!!!

After what seems like weeks of training, I am back. I am officially cross-trained as a CSR to back up here at work. That is great. I actually learned a lot and had a good time. Not a lot has happened, but apparently, according to Heather, it has.

I am officially done with classes until October! I survived! I even kept my GPA the same. ALL A's! Yay for me!

Today, I am back at Main Office and quickly learning that I have a lot to do. So, unfortunately my blog will be short.

I had a great Mother's Day! I got a bracelet from my Mom and Dad, a jewelry box from Trenton and Wes and a precious book (I made on Shutterfly) from Baxter. It was a great day! We spent the afternoon at my Aunt Donna's house. Trenton was probably the sleepiest I have seen him in a LONG time. He kept trying to fall asleep, but the precious little yappie dog kept waking him up. SAD DAY! So, we stayed, ate, visited, and went home where Trenton quickly went to bed. I didn't even get a picture made with him. Sad day!

Trenton's breathing is still sounding pretty normal, so I am having a hard time deciding on his procedure. I will probably keep it on the books and go and at least see, but I would rather not put him to sleep if I don't have to.

This weekend is Trenton's baptism and my Mom has taken over and she is planning it all. I have to admit I am grateful, but also feel terrible. I am excited for this event and even had a job as an event planner, but for some reason, I cannot get it together. I better start on his 1 year soon! So, I will let you know more about it as I do.

Bless His Heart

So, it is official that Trenton's breathing problem is caused by his TE Fistula repair. We went to the doctor yesterday and four hours later we learned that Trenton will be having a procedure done. The doctor, who was amazing, thinks that the problem is a soft spot in his trachea. Dr. is "87%" (odd, right) sure that all Trenton will need is a stint; however, it could also be a cyst and in that case, the Dr. will laser it off. If it isn't either of those, it could be something that requires surgery. If this is the case, Dr. will take pictures, wake Trenton up and come talk to Wes and me before anything else happens.

Yesterday was an exciting day in the sense that there is hope for Trenton's breathing, but it is also a hard day because I was hopeful we would not have to go back into surgery (especially since we were not approved for assistance from the State..thanks, SC!) It will all be okay though. So, we are looking at June 3rd for a date of the procedure.

Other than that, I am in training, so not as muich time to blog. Be back soon!

It is always scarier when it happens to you

Most of my readers are also readers of my sister's blog theboatmans.wordpress.com. Well, Ansley won't be blogging today or potentially tomorrow. She is in Nashville and things there are terrible. Well, today it is sunny and 85, but that doesn't make up for all the disaster they have been through.

Ansley lives in Bellevue which is one, if not the hardest hit area in Nashville. Amazingly, she (three included), Adam, and Beaty are fine. I am so grateful Adam is home because I cannot imagine Ansley going through this alone. In her neighborhood, many homes were lost. The streets I just visited a week ago are not mini rivers and unable to be driven down. There is not a good way to describe what all they have been through. Ansley and I spoke this morning and she said that there was no longer an exit to her house, that one (which was down a hill) is under water. I cannot imagine what the families in Nashville must be going through. We are all just grateful for the prayers that have been answered keeping all the Boatmans (Katy is up there too) safe. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those families that were not so fortunate. Please keep all of Nashville in your prayers.
